My Lolo's Rocking Chair

I have very vivid memories riding on my grandfather's rocking chair. I remember spending a lot of time on it as if it were a carnival ride. I knew it so well, how it felt, which spoke was loose, the shake-y armrest, and the bump on its left rocker that prevented it from swinging smoothly. It holds much of my childhood and will always be a wonderful reminder of my grandparents.

This rocking chair was given to my grandfather for his retirement from the Philippine Air Force in 1971. He was a fighter pilot.

Being exactly 40 years old, it has been through a lot as seen on its peeling paint, a makeshift splint for its arm, and nails bored here and there to hold everything in place.

Last week, I took it home from my grandparents' house since it had just been sitting in the bodega. For some reason, it reminds me very much of the Skin Horse in The Velveteen Rabbit and I just want to hug and take care of it. And talk to it.

Do you ever feel like that?

Not Too Shabby...Shabby Chic

Oh, gosh, I used to be sooo obsessed with Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic. I can still hear her crackly voice talking about the beauty of an old, weathered bookend or how a lace table runner can change an entire room. It's every girl's dream and my husband's worst nightmare: overstuffed bedding, heirloom cutlery, cracked paint, French country interiors, crystal chandeliers, and slipcovers for everything.

Me: "But, G, it's shabby chic!"
Husband: "Whut the hell is shabby chic?!"

Letter Opener of My Dreams

Of all office items I've come across, the letter opener (and those metal pendulum ball things) was one item I used to deem most useless. It's a small dull knife that, most of the time, looks like a sword for a little dwarf knight if there ever was one.

About G (& G)

Hello, my name is Georgia, I'm 29, a wife, and a new mother of one. I've always dreamt of being a full-time housewife--cooking for my family, spending time with my daughter--it's easy to say that my dream has come true. I have a home-based baking and catering business that's been running for three years now, and I also write a column for a fitness magazine on the side. In between those and my household duties, I partner with my husband (the other "G") in whatever project he has for his line of work...or I go shopping...or I go online.

I put up this blog/selling site because I love to shop for my house. Unfortunately, not everything that catches my fancy actually matches or fits our modern mediterranean abode and lifestyle. Goodbye kitschy accessories, so long shabby chic lace tablecloths, and farewell funny stainless steel hook that only works as a banana hanger. As much as I want all this stuff in my house, in my real world, I don't have the budget or counter space. Or a husband who will appreciate them.

As you will see, I have a few pieces that have been collecting dust in our bodega since I married, never seeing the light of day that they obviously deserve. These items I have loved very much and, although difficult to part with, I must let go to make room for the walker my daughter has outgrown or the crib she never sleeps in. Others are wonderful items I find while on my shopping trips, and cannot go home without that I want to share with you.

Thank you for dropping by and hope you enjoy shopping with me.

Love, G.
